Cancer and Lemon Juice
TIDBITS
by Sir Peter Bonnell CJSJ
Some years ago someone sent me a Reference Manual entitled Biological Theory of Ionization by Dr. Carey A. Reams. In it, Reams said, lemon juice is the only anionic substance, the only natural hydrochloric acid on earth, that I know of.
He further went on to explain: "it's anionic, electrons travel clockwise, all food we eat are cationic with the exception of lemon and if there is another I never found it, when it goes into the system it can be converted into some 6 billion different enzymes with less chemical change than any other natural substance known to man".
Lemon juice taken with water he claimed-- taken periodically helps the liver. It takes 18 hours to form an amino acid in your body, that's one of the reasons you need that small little shot of lemon juice, for your liver, spread throughout the day. Lemon juice is nothing more than dilute hydrochloric acid.
Not being a Biochemist I could not grasp what was being stated, but I remembered reading another book where the author claimed lemon juice could help cure cancer.
Back in the late 70's while playing golf with my best friend Dr. Arnaldo Abreu, who was a Urologist/Surgeon, in Akron, OH, he told me of a patient that was very poor and had no way to get to Case Western Reserve in Cleveland. The man had to fill out forms and then would have to go back for final testing before surgery. He mentioned that the man had a large tumor in his bladder that was malignant.
I told my friend of what I had read about lemon juice and cancer. I also told him that I would take the day off to drive his patient to Cleveland. (My Order of Knighthood is both a Military and Hospital Order (our motto -"My Lords the Sick").
Doc said lemon juice couldn't hurt him and maybe I should mention it to him.
As it turned out the man was Joe Beck, a clothing salesman who worked at a store where I previously made purchases.
Joe was tearful on the way to Cleveland and explained all he had in life was a girlfriend and he couldn't very well make love to her with a bag hanging out of his side and he would probably lose her because of his condition.
I mentioned what I had read about lemon juice.
Joe was Jewish, but I suggested he might try praying to Jesus for help also.
We stopped on the way and I bought him some lemons.
Joe filled out the necessary forms in Cleveland; I waited for him and took him back to Akron
He lived at the Anthony Wayne Hotel (that was a flophouse) He said he had no food or money, I gave him $100.00 and told him I would call the Jewish relief organizations to help him.
He said "it wouldn't do any good, all they did was collect money but gave no help".
When I got home I called three of them listed in the phone book, two had no answer and only one had an answering machine that only made a statement of where to send donations.
I called Lady of the Elms a Catholic girls school and charity in Akron and explained to the Mother Superior the problem. She assured me she would help the man.
My girl friend and I packed up several boxes of canned good from my cupboards and stopped to buy some fresh fruit and vegetables (Joe said he had a 2-burner hotplate in his room that he cooked on).
When we arrived at Joe's, some two hours later. His small room was piled with about ten cartons of canned food that had already been delivered by Lady of the Elms.
Dr. Abreu's secretary took Joe back to be admitted the following weekend, as I had a previous appointment I could not break.
On Wednesday, I picked Joe up from Case Western Reserve and when he came out to the car he was "all smiles". He got in the car, grabbed my hand, kissed it and said through his tears "he was going to become a Christian"
He told me the Physician in charge of the testing said it was like a miracle, the center of the tumor appeared to have been burned out and it was benign.
Last winter (1999) I wanted to buy a Chesterfield overcoat. I went to the store in Akron where Joe had worked. While talking to the owner, I asked him if Joe had ever had a reoccurrence of the cancer. He sad no and I asked, what ever happen to Joe. He said he died of A HEART ATTACK TWO YEARS AGO.
Another friend of mine, a policeman, had facial cancer. I told him about the lemon juice theory and to mention it to his doctor.
He started eating lemons; he told me he ate the whole lemon skin and all; that's the way he liked them.
About two months later, I saw him and he said his cancer was in remission, two years later it still was.
(The high vitamin C content of the lemon has been used for hundreds of years to ward off scurvy among sailors and travelers.)
Is "vitamin C" really a vitamin?
Taken from Advanced Scientific Health-ASH Guide to Elemental Healthcare:
After 40 years of research, Dr. Irwin Stone stated his conclusion that an ancient genetic mutation left the primate virtually alone among animals in not producing ascorbic acid in his own body. By labeling ascorbic acid a "vitamin" and attaching to it a minimum daily requirement, most people exist in a state of sub-clinical scurvy-the symptoms of which are attributed to other ailments.
By the 1950s Dr. Stone's work with ascorbates had explained the success of Dr. Klenner's use of ascorbic acid to treat polio. By the 1960s, Dr. Stone's work had attracted the attention of Nobel laureate Dr. Linus Pauling . Dr. Pauling was then able to successfully apply mega-ascorbate therapy to a variety of ailments-including cancer, heart disease and diabetes.
The answer is to change our thinking about vitamin C-which is really a metabolite that is essential to health and healing at the molecular level. Dr. Stone's foundational research has provided us with the knowledge to ward off disease, counteract the ill effects of pollution and prolong our lives-easily and inexpensively.

Strokes and High Blood Pressure
Strokes Kill at Any Age
Strokes are the third-leading cause of death in Americans. In addition to the numbers they kill, strokes leave hundreds of thousands more disabled. Of special concern is the fact that 25 percent to 35 percent will have another stroke within their lifetime.
Within five years of having their first stroke, nearly a quarter of women and 42 percent of men will suffer a second stroke. The recurrent stroke, unfortunately, is more likely to kill or to leave its sufferers severely disabled.
Fortunately for everyone, there are a number of ways to reduce risk and to reduce the damage from a stroke.
Most ischemic strokes (due to blocked blood vessels) are caused by hardening arteries, or atherosclerosis. This is caused in turn by chronic inflammation within the blood vessel wall.
In hemorrhagic strokes, the main problem is weakened blood vessels in the brain. Chronic inflammation and a poor diet are secondary.
There are usually several episodes of mild neurological symptoms, such as sudden numbness of one side of the face or an arm. This may last only seconds and then pass. Other transient symptoms include brief dizzy spells, confusion that lasts for just a minute, heaviness of an arm or leg, and problems with speech, such as attempting to say a word or repeating words over and over. Other people often spot the problem first. They may notice that one side of the person's face seems to sag, or that they make little sense when speaking. Sometimes the person isn't walking right.
Taking an aspirin when symptoms first occur, for instance, can prevent most strokes, but it is important to use this time to get to your doctor for a proper workup.
Get Your High Blood Pressure Under Control
Hypertension, diabetes, obesity, smoking, migraines, and a poor diet are among the high-risk factors for stroke. All of these factors are associated with chronic inflammation and its byproducts.
Hypertension is especially common among blacks and women. Shockingly, some 29 million women, and 55 percent of women over age 55, have high blood pressure (hypertension). Most cases of hypertension can be cured by altering the diet, regular moderate exercise, and magnesium supplementation.
In fact, using special supplements to decrease inflammation will greatly reduce the size of a stroke and improve recovery.
Antioxidants, flavonoids, vitamin C, zinc, selenium, and copper help maintain blood vessel strength. Magnesium, natural vitamin E and DHA all play a major role in stroke prevention and in helping the brain recover after a stroke.
Here are some simple steps to prevent strokes, especially recurrent strokes:
a.) If you smoke, stop.
b.) Get your hypertension under strict control. (75% of stroke victims have high blood pressure)
c.) Correct your diet: Avoid sugar and processed carbohydrates; avoid excess meats in the diet (a source of iron); eat five to 10 servings of fresh, washed vegetables a day; drink only purified water.
d.) Avoid insecticides and herbicides, especially in the house.
e.) Avoid all sources of mercury.
f.) Exercise moderately every day for 30 minutes to one hour.
I have been a member of Advanced Scientific Health since 2004 and I have learned that ascorbate deficiency has been irrefutably linked to the world's #1 killer-heart disease. Ascorbate deficiency causes microscopic cracks, or lesions, to develop in arteries. As time elapses, the cracks become more numerous and the older LDL cholesterol patches harden into plaque. The process causes the diameter of the arteries to become narrower. The restriction can become a blockage, shutting off the flow of blood to tissue in certain areas of the body and eventuality damages tissue and leads to angina, strokes or heart attacks.
The task for ASH is to reverse the condition causing vesicular/arterial lesions and remove the plaque that has accumulated to patch these lesions. Product: More

My story is not unlike that of so many others who have experienced the emotional pain of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes: My father died from lung cancer. My mother died from heart disease complicated by Type 2 diabetes after surviving breast cancer chemotherapy and radiation. My doctor says this is what I have to look forward to, leaving me to look to the future in fear... but not anymore! I only wish I had known about ASH sooner. These products are based on solid science and are truly revolutionary. Today I use ASH products to keep myself and my family healthy. They are my weapon of choice in staying disease-free.

Hormonal Imbalance and Diabetes
All Adults Could Be Fat by 2048
If the trends of the past three decades continue, it's possible that every American adult could be overweight 40 years from now, a government-funded study projects.
The figure might sound alarming, or impossible, but researchers say that even if the actual rate never reaches the 100-percent mark, any upward movement is worrying; two-thirds of the population is already overweight.
"Genetically and physiologically, it should be impossible" for all U.S. adults to become overweight, said Dr. Lan Liang of the federal government's Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, one of the researchers on the study. However, she told Reuters Health, the data suggest that if the trends of the past 30 years persist, that is the direction we're going.
Already, she and her colleagues point out, some groups of U.S. adults have extremely high rates of overweight and obesity; among African- American women, for instance, 78 percent are currently overweight or obese.
The new projections, published in the journal Obesity, are based on government survey data collected between the 1970s and 2004. If the trends of those years continue, the researchers estimate that 86 percent of American adults will be overweight by 2030, with an obesity rate of 51 percent. By 2048, all U.S. adults could be at least mildly overweight.
Weight problems will be most acute among African-Americans and Mexican- Americans, the study projects. All black women could be overweight by 2034, according to the researchers, as could more than 90 percent of Mexican-American men.
All of this rests on the "big assumption" that the trends of recent decades will march on unabated, Liang acknowledged.
"This is really intended as a wake-up call to show what could happen if nothing changes," she said.

Advanced Scientific Health teaches us that when we are young, our cells are full of oxygen and we are full of energy. That’s how we are created. Due to age and inactivity, stored carbohydrates accumulate in the form of fat. Because we are now full-grown, the hypothalamus tells the pituitary gland to release less and less STH. This causes the pancreas to produce more insulin in order to maintain proper blood sugar levels. The visible result of this hormonal imbalance is weight gain. The chronic symptoms of this imbalance is hypoglycemia. If not corrected, diabetes is the end result.
There are no surgeries that can be performed nor drugs that can be taken to maintain optimal levels of both insulin and STH.
ASH offers a product called RAANOW (Reverse Accelerated Aging Now). One of the ingredient's is the “miracle molecule” L-Arginine. L-Arginine is known for its benefits in fat loss, muscle and sex gains, and bone and skin repair. Health education is part of the ASH membership. ASH also offers a great compensation plan, however, participation is optional to members. If you or someone close to you has health issues (and who doesn't) I strongly suggest that you look further into Advanced Scientific Health. The ASH products can lead you to optimal health effectively and inexpensively without drugs, cutting, burning and radiation. Please visit: http://www.ashnow.com/999751

Before I used the ASH products I had red, puffy and bleeding gums. Within two weeks my gums are a healthy pink and they do not bleed. I am very happy with the results I am having and I believe if the products are doing so much for my gums I could imagine what they are doing for the rest of my body. I researched the internet to find products based on Dr. Lunus Pauling and I have not been able to find them as complete and as inexpensive as ASH. I have yet to find a company that offers you the scientific research and the products based on the research at such an affordable price. You owe it to yourself and your loved ones to experience the ASH products for yourself.

Free Radicals are Bullies
Most people believe that genetics or bad luck gave them diseases for which the only treatments are drugs and surgeries. As a result, organized medicine will sell an estimated three-trillion-dollars worth of drugs and surgeries in 2010.
Drugs and surgeries are obviously not the solution to our medical problems; each year MORE, not fewer people die slowly (and expensively) from pharmaceutically and surgically-treated diseases.

Through the study and implementation of "Orthomolecular" science, diseases such as Heart Disease, Cancer, Diabetes, Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinsons, to the common cold can be prevented simply by giving the body the nutrients it needs.
Antioxidants protect every cell, tissue and organ in your body. Controls the threat of free radicals and how quickly you age.
Here's how it works: Every cell in your body uses oxygen to make energy. It's similar to the jolt of energy created when your car's engine ignites gas and oxygen. In the case of your car, its byproduct is exhaust. In your body, this "exhaust" is a dangerous outlaw called oxygen free radicals.
Free radicals are dangerous and unstable because they're missing an electron. To re-balance themselves, they run around looking for another electron to steal. They can swipe electrons from any cell they run into: Heart cells, brain cells, you name it...
And the results are usually tragic. When a free radical targets one of your healthy cells, the healthy cell often dies. And the death of these cells accelerates your aging process -- in the same way that a piece of bread goes stale when it's exposed to the air in your kitchen.
But that's just the tip of the iceberg... Oxygen free radicals are the outlaws your body makes on its own. But in today's world, you're under attack from thousands of other types of free radicals.
These free radicals come in the form of cigarette smoke, air and water pollution, plastics and the thousands of chemicals that get into your body every day. It's no wonder your body gets overwhelmed. Your body just doesn't have the defensive power needed to fight off the constant attacks.
Protect yourself from the destructive fire of aging...
Your body protects you with antioxidants every moment of the day. But as you get older, your supplies drop off -- leaving you vulnerable to the wear and tear of aging. And the lower they go, the more you show your age.
Here's the good news: Put the right antioxidants back in your body and you'll help to protect yourself from the fire of oxidation -- the culprit that speeds up your aging clock.
The key is to aid in preventing damage to your health from occurring in the first place with powerful antioxidants.

So, what food have antioxidants? Berries, Broccoli, Tomatoes, Red Grapes, Garlic, Spinach, Tea, Carrots, Soy and Whole Grains.Antioxidants are molecules which can safely interact with free radicals and terminate the chain reaction before vital molecules are damaged. Although there are several enzyme systems within the body that scavenge free radicals, the principle micronutrient (vitamin) antioxidants are vitamin E, beta-carotene, and vitamin C. Additionally, selenium, a trace metal that is required for proper function of one of the body's antioxidant enzyme systems, is sometimes included in this category. The body cannot manufacture these micronutrients so they must be supplied in the diet.
The benefits of antioxidants from food, or a good quality natural antioxidant supplement, give you the anti aging protection against degenerative diseases and help slow down the aging process of your skin, cells, tissues and organs.

Omega-3: Nature’s Miracle Fat
Omega-3: The Good Guy
The different fats we face each day is confusing at best. Good fats, Bad fats, Saturated fats, Polyunsaturated fats, Trans fatty acids and so on. So let's go over the different fats to refresh our memory.
Saturated fats - Saturated fats are found in animal products like meat, cheese, butter, and cream. They're also found in tropical oils like palm and coconut. Eating too much saturated fat can increase your risk for coronary artery disease, diabetes, and obesity. Eating animal fat can also raise cholesterol levels.
Polyunsaturated fats - There are two major groups of polyunsaturated fats: omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-6 (linoleic) fatty acids are present in the seeds and oils of soybean, safflower, and corn. Omega-3 (alpha-linolenic) fatty acids are found in cold-water fish, spinach, kale, romaine lettuce, flaxseed, and evening primrose. Omega-6 oils can support heart health, but they can also provide negative health effects when consumed in excess. Omega-3 fatty acids support brain, heart, and joint health.
Trans fatty acids - Liquid vegetable oils are whipped with hydrogen to make a semisolid product, like vegetable shortening or margarine. Hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated fats are called trans fatty acids and these fats can raise LDL (bad) cholesterol. Since they can also lower your HDL (good) cholesterol, eating trans fatty acids can increase your risk of heart disease. Packaged foods likely to contain trans fats have the words "hydrogenated" or "partially hydrogenated" vegetable oil on their labels. These hydrogenated oils are commonly used in pastries, cookies, and margarine.
MSG - the ingrediant that is slowly poisoning America. Very few actually know what the make-up is of MSG. The FDA has set no limits on how much of it can be added to food. They claim it's safe to eat in any amount. If MSG is safe as the FDA would have us believe, than why does the food industry hide and disguise this additive so that it can't be recognized? In fact, many foods are labeled as having "No MSG" but in fact have one of the disguised names for MSG. Such as:
Monosodium Glutamate
Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein
Hydrolyzed Protein
Hydrolyzed Plant Protein
Plant Protein Extract
Sodium Caseinate
Calcium Caseinate
Yeast Extract
Textured Protein (Including TVP)
Autolyzed Yeast
Hydrolyzed Oat Flour
Corn Oil
The truth of the matter is that MSG can be blamed for the obesity ourbreak in America. It is an addictive substance that food manufacturers put in their food so we buy more and eat more of their product.
Omega-3 or the miracle fat might not only prevent heart attacks and help you avoid a stroke - it could also protect you from depression and other brain disorders. This miracle fat might not only prevent heart attacks and help you avoid a stroke — it could also protect you from depression and other brain disorders.
In 1998, researchers surveyed a variety of populations (countries included France, New Zealand and Japan) and found a strong correlation between heart attack incidence and major depression. Subsequent studies demonstrated that populations consuming fish as a main staple had the lowest incidence of both disorders. For example, the people of Japan - despite terrible overcrowding and high levels of stress - have one of the lowest depression rates in the world. This indicates the convergence of two diseases that are seemingly different yet share a common nutritional origin. Mountains of evidence clearly show that special fats known as Omega-3 Fatty Acids (or N-3 fats) greatly enhance the health of the brain, as well as virtually every cell in the body. Omega-3 fats are a group of polyunsaturated fats commonly found in plants, fish, algae and flaxseed.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids supplements can be obtained from food or are readily available over the counter at drug and/or health food stores. This supplement is also available at WalMart and can be obtained through the Internet. You might get confused when you see that Omega-6 is also available, but bigger is not always better. So to recap - GOOD OIL is Extra-virgin olive oil, Omega-3 (fish oil, DHA and flaxseed oil). BAD OIL is Omega-6 (corn, safflower, sunflower, peanut, canola and soybean oil).
(Always take your supplements with food, because eating stimulates blood flow in your digestive system. Increased blood flow improves the absorption of the nutrients from your supplements.)
Once again, as an ASH member, I'm happy to share information with others. This is such important information and the good news is that the supplement, Omega-3 is so reasonably priced, there's hardly an excuse not to take this supplement. The Importance of Vitamin D

Vitamin D deficiency leads to obesity, stunts growth
March 8th, 2010 - 2:22 pm ICT by IANS Toronto, March 8 (IANS) Vitamin D deficiency could be an unwitting invitation to obesity, weight gain or stunted growth among girls, says a new study. The ground-breaking research by McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) found an astonishing 59 percent of those who were studied had too little Vitamin D in their blood. Nearly a quarter had more serious deficiencies of the vitamin.
"Vitamin D insufficiency is a risk factor for other diseases," explained principal investigator and study author Richard Kremer, co-director of the Musculoskeletal Axis of the Research Institute of MUHC.
"Because it is linked to increased body fat, it may affect many different parts of the body. Abnormal levels of Vitamin D are associated with cancer, osteoporosis and diabetes as well as cardiovascular and autoimmune disorders."
The study by Kremer and co-investigator Vincente Gilsanz, head of musculoskeletal imaging at the Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles, is the first to show a clear link between Vitamin D levels and the accumulation of fat in muscle tissue - a factor in muscle strength and overall health.
The study results are especially surprising because study subjects - all healthy young women living in California - could logically be expected to benefit from a good diet, outdoor activities and ample exposure to sunshine - the trigger that causes the body to produce Vitamin D.
The results extend those of an earlier study by Kremer and Gilsanz, which linked low levels of Vitamin D to increased visceral fat in a young population, said an MUHC release.
"In the present study, we found an inverse relationship between Vitamin D and muscle fat," Kremer says. "The lower the levels of Vitamin D the more fat in subjects’ muscles."
These findings were published in the March Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism.
Vitamin D is ‘nature’s antibiotic’
Washington, Nov 24 (ANI): Vitamin D is being appreciated as "nature’s antibiotic" as a string of recent discoveries about the multiple health benefits of this nutrient have come to the fore.
Right from the health of your immune system to prevention of heart disease and even vulnerability to influenza, vitamin D is now seen as one of the most critical nutrients for overall health.
But it is also one of those most likely to be deficient - especially during winter when production of the "sunshine vitamin" almost grinds to a halt for people.
Analogs of the vitamin are even being considered for use as new therapies against tuberculosis, AIDS, and other concerns.
And federal experts are considering an increase in the recommended daily intake of the vitamin as more evidence of its value emerges, especially for the elderly.
"About 70 percent of the population of the United States has insufficient levels of vitamin D.
This is a critical issue as we learn more about the many roles it may play in fighting infection, balancing your immune response, helping to address autoimmune problems, and even preventing heart disease," said Adrian Gombart, a principal investigator with the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University.
Among other findings about benefits of Vitamin D is the ones made by OSU scientists that it induces the "expression" of cathelicidin, an antimicrobial peptide gene.
This explains in part how it helps serve as the first line of defense in your immune response against minor wounds, cuts, and both bacterial and viral infections.
Experts believe advances in the use of cathelicidin may form the basis for new therapies.
"Vitamin D insufficiency and deficiency is a world-wide, public health problem in both developed and developing nations. Nearly one billion people world-wide are deficient," the new report concluded.
The new report found that low levels of circulating vitamin D are associated with increased risk and mortality from cancer.
Vitamin D plays an important role in activating the immune system, fostering the "innate" immune response and controlling over-reaction of adaptive immunity, and as such may help control autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis, psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis.
The regulation of cathelicidin by vitamin D, a unique biological pathway for the function of vitamin D that could help explain its multiple roles in proper immune function, is so important that it’s only known to exist in two groups of animals - humans and non-human primates - and has been conserved in them through millions of years of evolution.
Epidemiological studies show a link between vitamin D deficiency and increased rates of respiratory infection and influenza, and it has been hypothesized that flu epidemics may be the result of vitamin D deficiency.
Higher levels of a protein linked to vitamin D have been associated with reduced infections and longer survival of dialysis patients.
Vitamin D has important roles in reducing inflammation, blood pressure and helping to protect against heart disease.
The study has been published in Future Microbiology, a professional journal. (ANI)

Criticism of ObamaCare
Why do most of us have insurance? My answer is quite simple - to cover my back. Since this is a blog, I better do a little better than that.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
Insurance, in law and economics, is a form of risk management primarily used to hedge against the risk of a contingent loss. Insurance is defined as the equitable transfer of the risk of a loss, from one entity to another, in exchange for a premium, and can be thought of as a guaranteed and known small loss to prevent a large, possibly devastating loss. An insurer is a company selling the insurance; an insured or policyholder is the person or entity buying the insurance. The insurance rate is a factor used to determine the amount to be charged for a certain amount of insurance coverage, called the premium. Risk management, the practice of appraising and controlling risk, has evolved as a discrete field of study and practice.
http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/insurance:
A contract whereby, for specified consideration, one party undertakes to compensate the other for a loss relating to a particular subject as a result of the occurrence of designated hazards.
In an insurance contract, one party, the insured, pays a specified amount of money, called a premium, to another party, the insurer. The insurer, in turn, agrees to compensate the insured for specific future losses. The losses covered are listed in the contract, and the contract is called a policy.
Bureaucrats muzzle criticism of Obamacare
Examiner Editorial
September 28, 2009
Something quite disturbing is happening in the nation's capital. Bureaucrats in one of the federal government's biggest departments have issued a gag order against what they deem to be unfair criticism of President Obama's health care reform proposals. Not only are these bureaucrats making a mockery of the First Amendment's guarantee of freedom of speech, they are also denying information that millions of elderly Americans have a right to receive.
Here's the situation: Earlier this month, officials with the Louisville, Ky.-based Humana Corp. sent a one-page letter to all of its policyholders who participate in the Medicare Advantage program. The letter was entirely factual and pointed out, among other things, that because of cuts proposed under Obamacare, "millions of seniors and disabled individuals could lose many of the important benefits and services that make Medicare Advantage health plans so valuable."
The Humana letter angered Senate Finance Committee Chairman Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., who is the principal author of the Senate version of Obamacare, which indeed includes hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of "savings" that are supposed to be achieved by eliminating waste and fraud in the Medicare Advantage program. When Washington politicians talk about saving money by cutting waste and fraud, hang on to your wallets. It's their way of saying higher taxes are coming.
To make sure Americans don't see through this smoke-and-mirror act, and to stay in the good graces of Baucus, the bureaucrats at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which manages Medicare, ordered Humana and all other private companies participating in the Medicare Advantage program "to end immediately all such mailings to beneficiaries and to remove any related materials directed to Medicare enrollees from your website." They also added this blunt warning: "Please be advised that we take this matter very seriously and, based upon the findings of our investigation, will pursue compliance and enforcement actions. ..."
There is no doubt that any speech about Obamacare by private citizens or companies -- including false speech, according to federal courts -- is protected under the First Amendment. Yet here we see the full power of the federal government being used to crush what some bureaucrats and an angry senator deem as "bad" speech. As Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said: "This episode should be of serious concern to millions of seniors on Medicare who deserve to know what the government has in mind for their health care. But it should also frighten anyone who cherishes their First Amendment right to free speech -- whether in Louisville, Helena, San Francisco or anywhere else."
Senate Republicans say no Obama appointees with pending confirmations will go forward until the gag order is reversed. Finally, some backbone on the right side of "the world's greatest deliberative body."
UPDATE: Baucus title corrected
This editorial originally incorrectly identified Sen. Baucus as chairman of the Senate HELP committee. The Examiner regrets the error.
Reported by the Washington Examiner
I don't mind admitting that I'm a bit lost. From what I hear, our president and most of congress is passing legistration (right now, I might add) so we can all have health care coverage or health insurance. Humana is doing their job by informing their customers important information about their medical coverage. Is our government afraid to tell the citizens of this great nation the truth? Are they ashamed of what their legistration is going to do to senior citizens, such as lose their coverage? Is this the way the government will run it's Health Care Program?
Another thing. I never heard this story on national news, nor read about this in our daily paper. WHY?
Personally, I don't have Humana Insurance, however after reading this editorial, I would certainly consider changing companies. It seems to me that Humana is doing exactly what we would expect our provider to do - look out for our best interest and cover our backs.
This sounds very scary to me and there's no better time to take charge of your own health care. Please visit my website and consider some different options for good health. http://www.ashnow.com/999751

This sounds very scary to me and there's no better time to take charge of your own health care. Please visit my website and consider some different options for good health. http://www.ashnow.com/999751

Obesity and Depression
Breaking News!!
Obesity and depression are a two-way street
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - People who are obese are at increased risk of becoming depressed, and people who are depressed are at increased risk of becoming obese, Dutch researchers have found.
Health
"There is a reciprocal association over time between depression and obesity," Dr. Floriana S. Luppino, of Leiden University Medical Center, the Netherlands, told Reuters Health by email.
Obesity, Luppino and colleagues found, increases the risk of depression in initially non-depressed individuals by 55 percent and depression increases the risk of obesity in initially normal-weight individuals by 58 percent.
Luppino said the analysis was not designed to determine a given person's risk of depression, only to figure out how much obesity increased that risk. However, for comparison, a recent study funded by the National Institute of Mental Health found that nearly one out of four cases of obesity is associated with a mood or anxiety disorder.
These findings, the NIMH notes on its website, appear to support what other studies have found - that obesity, which is on the increase in the US - is associated with increasing rates of depression and other mental health problems.
The new findings stem from pooled data from 15 published studies that looked at whether being overweight or obese is associated with depression, and vice versa.
The studies, which collectively involved more than 58,000 people, used body mass index, or BMI, to gauge how fat or thin a person is. For reference, a US adult with a BMI of 25 or more is considered overweight, while one with a BMI of 30 and above is considered obese.
Being obese, Luppino told Reuters Health, not only increases the risk of depression, but is more likely to fuel the onset of clinical depression, rather than merely depressive symptoms.
In contrast to obesity, the association between depression and being overweight (but not obese) did not run the other way, Luppino noted. Being overweight increased the risk of depression in initially non-depressed individuals somewhat, but depression did not increase the risk of being overweight over time.
The findings, reported in the latest issue of the Archives of General Psychiatry, also suggest that the link between obesity and later depression is more pronounced among Americans than among Europeans.
Why? "A dose-response association -- meaning the higher the BMI, the more people get depressed -- might explain the association," Luppino said. And the average American weighs more than the average European.
However, the effect of the psychological distress should not be neglected, the researcher said. "Overweight and obesity, can induce low self-esteem and body dissatisfaction," Luppino explained, "especially in Western countries where thinness is often considered a beauty ideal. Both low self-esteem and body dissatisfaction are known to increase the risk of depression."
Because both depression and obesity carry "major health implications, it is very important to try to prevent and treat both," Luppino said.
The Dutch team encourages doctors and other health professionals, working in different fields, to collaborate and exchange their expertise. Doctors treating patients who are overweight or obese could screen their patients for depression and vice versa -- psychiatrists or general doctors encountering depressed patients could suggest their overweight patients see a dietitian, Luppino suggests.

Obese Americans now outweigh the merely overweight
(Reuters) - The number of obese American adults outweighs the number of those who are merely overweight, according to the latest statistics from the federal government.
U.S. Health Lifestyle
Numbers posted by the National Center for Health Statistics show that more than 34 percent of Americans are obese, compared to 32.7 percent who are overweight. It said just under 6 percent are "extremely" obese.
"More than one-third of adults, or over 72 million people, were obese in 2005-2006, the NCHS said in its report.
The numbers are based on a survey of 4,356 adults over the age of 20 who take part in a regular government survey of health, said the NCHS, which is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The figures come from the 2005-2006 survey and are the most current available.
"During the physical examination, conducted in mobile examination centers, height and weight were measured as part of a more comprehensive set of body measurements," the NCHS report said.
"Although the prevalence of obesity has more than doubled since 1980, the prevalence of overweight has remained stable over the same time period," it said.
Obesity and overweight are calculated using a formula called body mass index. BMI is equal to weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared. Someone with a BMI of 25 to 29 is classified as overweight, 30 to 40 counts as obese and people with BMIs of 40 or more are morbidly obese.
A person 5 feet 5 inches tall becomes overweight at 150 pounds (68 kg) and obese at 180 pounds (82 kg). The U.S. National Institutes of Health has an online BMI calculator at www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/.
In the 1988-1994 surveys, 33 percent of Americans were overweight, 22.9 percent were obese and 2.9 percent were morbidly obese. The numbers have edged up steadily since.
Being overweight or obese raises the risk of heart disease, diabetes, some cancers, arthritis and other conditions.
In May, the CDC reported that 32 percent of U.S. children fit the definition of being overweight, 16 percent were obese and 11 percent were extremely obese.
Childhood and adult obesity has emerged as a growing problem not only in the United States but also in many countries around the world.

It's time to focus on choosing basic, wholesome foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and beans. It's time to start checking our habits and start eating right!
Here are 10 ways to keep you on course toward healthy eating: (Suggested by the Mayo Clinic)
Get out of the rut. Experiment with new foods and combinations. Try mango or peach slices on whole-wheat toast with a little peanut butter and honey. Toss some mandarin orange or peach slices into a salad.
Think beans. Add chickpeas (garbanzos) or black beans to your lunch or dinner salad. If you typically buy a salad at work and no beans are available, bring a container of beans from home.
Try tofu. Stir-fry with extra-firm or firm tofu rather than meat in Asian-style dishes. Freezing and then thawing tofu before use gives it a firmer, chewier texture.
Go short. Make a nutritious snack rather than a full meal when time is tight. For example, spread a brown rice cake with ricotta cheese and fresh strawberries or low-sugar, spreadable fruit. Or try low-fat corn muffins with apple and cheese slices, or fat-free refried beans mixed with salsa, a small amount of low-fat sour cream and baked tortilla chips.
Be sneaky. Add crushed bran cereal or unprocessed wheat bran to baked products, such as meatloaf, breads, muffins, casseroles, cakes and cookies. Also, use bran products as a crunchy topping for casseroles, salads or cooked vegetables.
Go greener. Vary your salad greens and enjoy the multitude of flavors and textures that are available besides plain iceberg lettuce. Choices include arugula, chicory, collard greens, dandelion greens, kale, mustard greens, spinach or watercress. Buy a different variety each week or just mix and match.
Multitask. Choose a dish that serves as a full meal for quick and simple cooking. Healthy examples include beef, barley and vegetable stew; chicken, vegetable and rice casserole; turkey and bean casserole with tomatoes; or vegetarian chili with diced vegetables.
Spice it up. Use salsa for more than just chips. Whether it's mild, fruity, hot, smooth or chunky, salsa is a great companion for potatoes, vegetables, fish, chicken, meats and even eggs.
Go herbal. Use herbs and spices to add color, savory taste and sensational aroma. Add cilantro to rice or bean dishes. Sprinkle rosemary on roasted potatoes or grilled meats. Add freshly chopped chives to omelets or pasta salads.
Explore the world. Discover and enjoy foods from around the world: Mexican, Latin American, Indian, Greek, French and Asian cuisines, just to name a few. Some of the world's most intriguing ingredients — quinoa, edamame, bok choy, bulgur — are as healthy as they are delicious.

Health Care Needs a Fix
Why isn't Healthcare Safe?
Health care is a decade behind other high-risk industries in improving safety. Safeguards have already been implemented to reduce the likelihood of such lethal medical errors. Some hospitals are now using computerized prescriptions to ensure that pharmacists don't misread doctors' scrawled prescriptions. At the urging of anesthesiologists, anesthesia equipment is being standardized. And the Food and Drug Administration is trying to reduce confusion by ensuring that the names of new drugs don't sound too similar to drugs already on the market.
Far more is needed: a concerted and comprehensive effort to raise the bar on consumer safety in the health care industry, not unlike what has already taken place in other industries. Since many doctors already feel beleaguered by financial constraints imposed on their care, insurers and health maintenance organizations must also bear the burden of improving safety.
When Kevin Baccam of Urbandale, Iowa, went in for hernia surgery in August 2005, he expected to come home with a scar on the right side of his groin.
But the 33-year-old school district controller actually wound up with two scars in the delicate region - one on each side - after the surgeon mistakenly operated on the left and had to start over.
Nearly as painful, Baccam said, was when he opened his mail a few weeks later and saw his health insurance had been billed for both operations.
While it's not clear how many patients are charged for hospital errors, the federal government has an idea. In 2006, Medicare was billed 764 times for objects left behind after surgery, resulting in an average payment of nearly $62,000 per event. The agency was billed 33 times for patients who got the wrong blood, at an average cost of $46,000 apiece.
More than a decade ago, the Institute of Medicine warned that hospitals are dangerous places for patients due to the risks of infection and medical errors. These conditions may claim almost 1000,000 lives each year in the U.S. The National Patient Safety Foundation places the blame on deficiencies in the way doctors are educated and a medical establishment that resists change. They report:
Medical schools and teaching hospitals have not trained physicians to follow safe practices, analyze bad outcomes, and work collaboratively in teams to redesign care processes to make them safer.
“Health care remains fundamentally unsafe,” says Lucian Leape, a Harvard professor who spearheaded the the NPSF research.
Along with the unsafe practices and/or procedurs by physicians and hospital staff, we face another health disaster. Medicare/medicaid fraud.
"60 Minutes" did a great story in Oct, 2009 on Medicare fraud that should be required viewing for all people who support a government run healthcare program in this country.
The facts and figures presented by CBS's Steve Kroft were disturbing as were the details concerning how shysters bilk the system for an estimated $60 billion a year and has become one of, if not the most profitable crimes in America.
Please, read more and listen to the video: http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2009/10/25/60-minutes-medicare-fraud-raises-troubling-questions-about-our-govern#ixzz0iTStrsX8
But, not to worry...

Obama's Expert on Medicare Fraud
Health-care czarina Nancy-Ann DeParle built a career at companies that have had to defend themselves against federal investigations.
By STEPHEN MOORE
It turns out that President Obama's Health Care czarina, Nancy-Ann DeParle, knows a lot about all that Medicare waste, fraud and abuse that Mr. Obama wants to weed out.
Mr. Obama says he can free up $500 billion to pay for an expanded middle-class health care entitlement by eliminating waste and fraud in Medicare. Many are skeptical, but at least he has an underling who knows all about the subject.
Ms. DeParle ran the Medicare program under Bill Clinton, then left to serve on the boards of several medical care companies that later were charged with Medicare fraud. Five of the companies subsequently paid out $566 million in fraud or product liability settlements, with Medicare often being the victim of the alleged fraud. Meanwhile, she earned millions of dollars in board fees.
We can thank Investigative Reporting Workshop of the American University School of Communication for this information. It conducted a multi-month investigation. In one case, Ms. DeParle joined the board of Specialty Laboratories Inc., a California medical testing company, just two months before "federal investigators suspended Medicare payments and threatened to revoke Specialty's license to operate. The company agreed to pay a $700,000 fine. . . . Specialty was also sued this year by the state of California which seeks to recover hundreds of millions of dollars for the state's Medicaid program for what [California Attorney General Jerry] Brown termed 'massive . . . fraud and kickbacks' over the past 15 years."
One should be careful in jumping to conclusions about true culpability for alleged Medicare fraud. It's not infrequent that regulators bully firms into paying penalties to avoid legal costs or remain in good standing as government contractors. In some cases, the DeParle-connected firms did not admit to fraud or the cases are still unsettled.
But the bottom line, according of the AU Reporting Workshop, is still hard to jibe with the Obama administration's verbal war on the evils of lobbying: "In touting DeParle's accomplishments when he appointed her in March, Obama didn't mention the lucrative private-sector career she built since September 2000, when she left her government job running Medicare for the Clinton administration. Records show she earned more than $6.6 million since early 2001 . . . And the public wasn't told that much of that corporate career was built at companies that have frequently had to defend themselves against federal investigations. Critics see DeParle's re-emergence as a classic case of Washington 'revolving door' syndrome, despite Obama's suggestions that he would shut that door."
By the end of the Clinton administration, Medicare fraud was estimated by the U.S. General Accounting Office to costs taxpayers tens of billions of dollars a year. This happened on Ms. DeParle's watch. It makes one wonder how this czarina is going to root out waste when so much of it piled up the last time she was in charge.
I'm sure we can all agree that some kind of health reform is needed, however, a government program is not necessarilly the answer. Why not start with "fixing" what we already have. Just look at the two examples above that is not only costing the government, but the tax payers as well. I do not agree with this administration that all the blame goes to insurance companies. I recently had a stay in a hospital and asked for a copy of the total bill that my insurance company would get. I honestly could not believe what was before my very eyes. Of course, I'm looking at the total. The list of medications and/or services was in language not intended for my understanding.
With all the controversy surrounding the government's plans, it only makes sense for you to take charge of your own health.

The Little Known Element
Iodine: The Anticancer Agent
Iodine is probably one of the most misunderstood nutrient, if you think about nutrients at all. Believe it or not, iodine could be the missing link to your good health. For over a century, iodine has been hailed as the element necessary for your thyroid hormone production. And clearly, that's crucial. However, there's so much more. Without enough iodine, balancing your hormonal or endocrine system becomes impossible.
I've been reading a medical publication by Dr. David Brownstein and he says that adequate iodine is necessary for your immune system to function properly. And it's proven effective for treating fatigue, headaches, high blood pressure, liver disease, fibrocystic breasts and ovarian cysts, just to name a few things.
He also reports that iodine contains potent antibacterial, antiparasitic, antiviral, and even anticancer properties. You read correctly, it contains many cancer-fighting and cancer-preventing properties. Plus, iodine functions as both a strong antioxidant as well as an oxidant in the body. Compounds like iodine can help maintain that balance which makes it one of the most powerful anti-cancer agents known.
Iodine has been shown to cause apoptosis (or cell death) in breast and thyroid cancer cells. Dr. Brownstein has also reported that clinically, iodine can cause tumors to shrink and die from the center out. Similar results with nodules and cysts in the thyroid, ovaries, and uterus after instituting supplementation with iodine. And while good iodine levels help fight back against cancer, lowered levels provide fertile ground for cancer to begin in your many different hormonally sensitive tissues. Tissues of the prostate, thyroid, breast, uterus, and ovaries.
According to Donald W. Miller, Jr., MD, there is growing evidence that Americans would have better health and a lower incidence of cancer and fibrocystic disease of the breast if they consumed more iodine. A decrease in iodine intake coupled with an increased consumption of competing halogens, fluoride and bromide, has created an epidemic of iodine deficiency in America.
Now iodized table salt is the chief source of iodine in a Western diet. But 45 percent of American households buy salt without iodine. And over the last three decades people who do use iodized table salt have decreased their consumption of it by 65 percent. Furthermore, the much higher concentrations of chloride in salt (NaCl) inhibits absorption of its sister halogen iodine (the intestines absorb only 10 percent of the iodine present in iodized table salt). As a result, 15 percent of the U.S. adult female population suffers from moderate to severe iodine deficiency, which health authorities define as a urinary iodine concentration less than 50 µg /L. Women with goiters (a visible, noncancerous enlargement of the thyroid gland) owing to iodine deficiency have been found to have a three times greater incidence of breast cancer. A high intake of iodine is associated with a low incidence breast cancer, and a low intake with a high incidence of breast cancer.
Salt is vital to life. Salt (sodium chloride) courses constantly through our circulatory system. A shortage of this essential nutrient can cause serious health risks, even death.
Our most important electrolyte, the natural mineral salt is necessary to maintain the critical osmotic balance in human cells. Sodium is essential to transmission of nerve impulses signaling the heart muscle to contract. Sodium helps regulate human hydration, pH levels and the absorption of other nutrients. Chloride helps digestion, including potassium absorption. Chloride enables the blood to carry carbon dioxide from tissue to the lungs. When the immune system is under attack, chloride fights infections.
Salt is natural—and so is our need and desire for it.
The body cannot produce its own sodium or chloride, yet all human fluids contain (and need) salt, including blood, sweat, tears and digestive juices.
The body regulates the amount of salt we consume based on our individual needs. Salt intake levels are determined in the brain. Our cerebral cortex senses each person’s needs and creates an appetite that is more powerful than an individual’s conscious choice.
Thirst, for instance, is a signal that our bodies need water to help balance the salt we have consumed. A craving for salt reflects a healthy need. When healthy, our bodies are able to use the amount of salt they need, and expel any excess by processing through the kidneys.
According to Dr. Brownstein's research, salt is important for optimal performance of the immune system. His argument is that unrefined salt can play a positive role for many of the chronic life threatening diseases such as Fibromyglia, adrenal disorders, Meniere’s disease, headaches, thyroid disorders, and chronic fatigue. The interesting fact that is contradictory to widespread belief is that unrefined salt is great for maintaining cholesterol levels and blood pressure.
Unrefined salt is recommended as part of one's daily diet, as it contains about 80 minerals, which can contribute to a balance of minerals in the body. The consumption of unrefined salt with a holistic regimen will help to provide a refreshing outlook on life without deficiency of any of the necessary compounds.
Taken from Wikipedia, the online dictionary: " Iodized table salt has significantly reduced disorders of iodine deficiency in countries where it is used. Iodine is important to prevent the insufficient production of thyroid hormones (hypothyroidism), which can cause goitre, cretinism in children, and myxedema in adults."

Approved by the FDA Does Not Make A Drug Safe
FDA Reportedly Finds Diabetes Drug Avandia Can Hurt Heart (from Fox News)
Reuters
WASHINGTON — Confidential U.S. government reports recommend that GlaxoSmithKline Plc's diabetes drug Avandia be pulled from the market because it can hurt the heart, The New York Times reported on Friday.
The newspaper said the findings, which it said it obtained, reported that if all diabetics now taking Avandia were given Takeda's Actos drug instead, about 500 heart attacks and 300 cases of heart failure would be averted each month because Avandia, also known as rosiglitazone, can be harmful to the heart.
"Rosiglitazone should be removed from the market," one report, by Dr. David Graham and Dr. Kate Gelperin of the FDA concluded, according to the Times, which said both authors recommended Avandia's withdrawal from the market.
Sales of Avandia, once Glaxo's second biggest-selling product, plummeted two years ago after a U.S. study linked it to an increased risk of heart attack in a conclusion disputed by Glaxo.
The Times said an FDA advisory board voted, 8-7, in 2007 to accept the advice of an independent committee that while Avandia might increase the risk of heart attack, it should stay on the market.
A Canadian study last year found that Avandia was associated with an increased risk of heart failure and death among older patients compared with Actos.
Glaxo contested the findings, which it said did not reflect evidence from two randomized controlled trials comparing Avandia and Actos that found no differences in heart failure.
The drugmaker is enrolling patients into a long-term clinical trial that will look at cardiovascular outcomes and compare the effect of the two drugs.
The Times said the internal FDA findings reflected a fierce debate inside the agency about Avandia. The newspaper quoted Glaxo as saying it had studied Avandia extensively and that "scientific evidence simply does not establish that Avandia increases" heart attack risk.
Dr. Janet Woodcock, director of the FDA's drug center, wrote in a December 2009 internal memorandum that "there are multiple conflicting opinions" about Avandia and ordered officials to assemble another advisory committee to reconsider if the drug should be sold, according to the Times.
It quoted FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg as saying on Friday, "I await the recommendations of the advisory committee."
A bipartisan U.S. Senate investigation said Glaxo failed to warn patients earlier that Avandia was potentially deadly, according to the Times. The newspaper reported that the results, which it said it also obtained, were expected to be released on Monday.
The Times quoted GlaxoSmithKline as saying it disagreed with the Senate investigation's conclusions. It added that the company declined comment on internal FDA. documents but that "the official ruling from FDA is that Avandia remain on the market."
Doesn't this sound all too familar? You probably remember that in 2004, Merck took its "wonder drug" Vioxx off the market when studies showed that it doubled your risk of a heart attack. Yet shockingly, these studies were not "new" news. Memos from Merck prove that they knew of Vioxx’ connection to heart attack and stroke but covered it up before they even submitted the data for approval.
Even more shocking, Merck actually wanted to bring Vioxx back to the market, this time as a cancer-inhibiting drug! Perhaps Merck assumes we’ve forgotten about the estimated 139,000 Americans that died from Vioxx during its first incarnation (more than 46 times as many American military personnel killed in Iraq to date).
So how can you protect yourself, particularly when it comes to your prescription drugs? Obviously, you can’t depend on the FDA to protect you from unsafe drugs.
The fact is, FDA scientists live under enormous pressure from their supervisors to keep information about side effects to themselves, knowing their jobs and promotions are at stake. In turn, supervisors are pressured by influential politicians and bureaucrats who receive support of various kinds from powerful pharmaceutical companies.
The sad truth...The #1 killer in our society is not cancer or heart disease. The #1 killer is the health care system itself (something doctors call iatrogenic death). This includes death from:
Medications
Surgical errors
Hospital-acquired infections
Diagnostic machines
Hospital-acquired malnutrition
Why isn't our president and congress addressing this problem rather than forcing a socialistic health care program upon us? Wouldn't we all be a lot healthier and happier?

Is the Sun a Killer?
Vitamin D Health Disaster
Back in the 1970s and 1980s, dermatologists in the United States saw a growing trend in the number of malignant melanoma cases. And believing most skin cancers developed because of too much sun exposure, they sent an alarm around the country urging people to stay out of the sun.
As panic grew, more and more people became fearful of the sun. They started taking every precaution possible to make sure not a single ray touched their skin — from wide-brimmed hats and other sun-proof clothing to slathering on thick layers of sunscreen. This fear has carried over into current times. Most people go through life without a clue that they're lacking in this life-giving vitamin.
It's unfortunate, however, doctors didn't know at the time that they were creating an epidemic health disaster much worse than just skin cancer. They didn't know that moderate sunlight exposure actually fights against cancer and other diseases, too. It's quite sobering to think you easily could be one of those people "living in the dark" when it comes to achieving the best health you can. Some experts estimate that nearly 70 percent of Americans are deficient in vitamin D. But, maybe what we don't know, is that the sun is not the only cause of skin cancer.
Melanoma has been linked directly to excessive exposure to fluorescent light, rather than sunlight. Dr. John Ott, an American pioneer of light research and the new science of photobiology, states, “Emissions from such light extend into the potentially carcinogenic range.” A study by the U.S. Navy found the most melanoma in people who worked under interior light all the time. The respected medical journal, Lancet, published a study by The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the University of Sydney’s Melanoma Clinic that determined those who work indoors under fluorescent light are twice as likely to get skin cancer, and those who sunbathed often had the lowest risk of skin cancer. Richard Stevens, Ph.D., an epidemiologist with the University of Connecticut Health Center, who has written much on the subject, was quoted in the National Institutes of Health News (Dec. 2005) saying “if the link between light exposure and cancer risk can be confirmed, it could have an immediate impact on the production and use of artificial lighting in this country.” People who work indoors all the time, exposed to fluorescent lights, have the highest incidence of melanoma.
Compounding the problem, our water treatment includes chlorine or chloramines to control the growth of bacteria, despite the fact that these chemicals have themselves been linked to illness. Studies in Belgium have related development of deadly malignant melanoma to consumption of chlorinated water. Franz H. Rampen, et al., of the Netherlands, state that the worldwide pollution of rivers and oceans and the chlorination of swimming pool water have led to an increase in melanoma.
Canadian researchers found that after swimming for an hour in a chlorinated pool, chloroform concentrations in the swimmers' blood ranged from 100 to 1,093 parts per billion (ppb). Researchers even recorded increases in chloroform concentration in bathers' lungs of about 2.7 ppb after a 10-minute shower in chlorinated water. For many people the intake through those routes is much greater than in water taken orally.
Taking a warm shower or lounging in a hot tub filled with chlorinated water, one inhales chloroform. And worse, warm water opens the pores, causing the skin to act like a sponge, and so one will absorb and inhale more chlorine in a 10-minute shower than by drinking eight glasses of the same water. This irritates the eyes, the sinuses, throat, skin and lungs, makes the hair and scalp dry, worsening dandruff. It can weaken immunity.
"Chlorine" has been documented to aggravate asthma, especially in those children who use chlorinated swimming pools. Several studies also link chlorine and chlorinated by-products to a greater incidence of bladder, breast and bowel cancer as well as malignant melanoma. One study even links the use of chlorinated tap water to congenital cardiac anomalies.
Another interesting fact you may not be aware of is that heredity plays a major role in Melanoma. Each person with a first-degree relative (father, mother, siblings or children) diagnosed with melanoma has a 50 percent greater chance of developing the disease than members of the general public who do not have a family history of the disease.
Overall health benefits from increased sun exposure may outweigh the risk of skin cancer, researchers said. Vitamin D seems to protect against cancers including breast, colon, kidney, and ovarian cancers. Studies have also linked vitamin D or sun exposure to benefits in overall mortality, prostate cancer, multiple sclerosis, bone health, as well as the occurrence of cardiovascular events in hypertensive patients. The issues have health consequences far beyond those of cancer. A number of diesease such as neurological, cardiovascular, metabolic, immune and bone disease are associated with inadequate vitamin D (the sunshine vitamin) levels or low sun exposure.
A population-wide increase in sun exposure improves vitamin D status, but is controversial because it has been blamed for the high and increasing incidence rates of melanoma. We know that UV light doesn't cause all melanomas, especially those that occur in places on your body that don't receive exposure to sunlight. This indicates that other factors may contribute to your risk of melanoma. "Chlorine" and/or "Heredity "?

Cancer - a Terrifying Word!
The Basics of Cancer
Our modern lives give us ample opportunity to become acidic. Commonly-consumed acid-forming foods and beverages include meat, dairy products, sugar, coffee and alcohol. Environmental exposure to solvents, herbicides, pesticides and other chemical toxins boost our tendency to become acidic. "Acidosis" is the scientific term for a body that has a pH below 7.0 (acidic). In this state, the body is deprived of oxygen causing one to be more susceptible to colds, flus and other diseases/infections. This state also contributes to accelerated aging. "Acidosis" is also the cause of America's #2 killer - cancer. In order to understand the basics of cancer, we must first understand the acid/alkaline balance.
The acid/alkaline balance in the body is monitored by measuring the "pH (the symbol for hydrogen ion concentration)" which is regulated by the body's oxygen saturation level. The body must be slightly alkaline for its cells to be properly oxygenated. The pH scale goes from zero to 14 being purely acid, 14 being purely alkaline and 7 being "neutral pH."
Without exception, people with cancer have a pH below 7.0, which means their tissues, their cells, are not being properly oxygenated. Those with a body pH over 7.4 or properly oxygenated cells and tissues, do not have cancer.
Understanding the acid/alkaline balance, the following summary makes perfect sense: The prime cause of cancer is the replacement of the respiration of oxygen in normal body cells by a fermentation of sugar.
pH Strips
pH strips are easily available at local pharmacies and health food stores. I use this company because they are convenient, easy to use and the shipping is usually free. ColorpHast® pH strips offer an ideal and convenient way of determining the level of pH faster and accurately: http://www.sanitationtools.com/Category.asp?Category=72
Contrary to current medical information, cancer is the easiest of all degenerative diseases to understand and is readily reversible without dangerous drugs and surgeries.
The body is constantly regulating the replacement of worn out cells while creating new cells to repair tissue damage. "Cancerous" is the term applied to cells that reproduce in an unregulated manner until they form a tissue mass, or "tumor."
In order to create a cancerous cell in the lab, technicians simply withhold oxygen from a healthy cell and it becomes cancerous within a few hours. Conversely, supplying the cancerous cell with more oxygen than was withheld from it causes that cancerous cell to die within a few hours.
An individual cell cannot be cured of cancer; once cancerous, the cell must be destroyed. The natural way to accomplish the feat of destroying cancer cells is exposing them to oxygen. Increasing the amount of oxygen available to the cells is accomplished by elevating body pH through diet and exercise.
In cases where elevating body pH is critical, the most alkalinizing element known to man is cesium. Daily intake of cesium, with potassium, will quickly increase body pH. It has been demonstrated that cancerous cells cannot survive in a pH of 8.0.
Once cancerous cells have been destroyed, maintaining body pH at 7.4-7.5 will prevent cells from becoming cancerous.
Over 75 years ago, Dr. Otto Warburg was awarded two Nobel prizes for demonstrating that cancer results when weakened cell respiration occurs due to lack of oxygen at the cellular level. According to Warburg, damaged cell respiration causes fermentation, resulting in low pH at the cellular level.
Warburg, in his Nobel Prize winning papers, described the environment of the cancer cell: A normal healthy cell undergoes an adverse change when it can no longer take in oxygen to convert glucose into energy. In the absence of oxygen, the cell reverts to a primal nutritional program to nourish itself by converting glucose through the process of fermentation. The lactic acid produced by fermentation lowers the cell pH and destroys the ability of DNA and RNA to control cell division. Cancer cells then begin to multiply without restraint.
The lactic acid simultaneously causes severe local pain as it destroys cell enzymes; the cancer appears as a rapidly-growing external cell covering with a core of dead cells. We know cell masses of this description as "tumors."
Subsequent research by Keith Brewer, Ph.D and H.E. Satori has shown that cancer cannot exist when the body's pH is raised to 8.0.
Dr. Brewer developed a protocol to therapeutically raise pH with the element cesium in conjunction with potassium.
There are no surgeries that can be performed nor drugs taken that will restore or maintain the body's acid/alkaline balance
Stress and Cancer Risk
When you find yourself denying that you are feeling negative emotions, it leads to stress. Nowhere else is stress more directly linked to the development of a disease than in cancer.
Patients with cancer are more likely than the general population to have suffered prolonged stress, including severe personal loss or chronic depression. In addition to prolonged stress, many cancer patients have type C personalities, characterized by a tendency to repress and deny their own feelings. Numerous studies have recently confirmed these effects of emotional stress on the body. Neuroendocrinology is a new field that has emerged from these studies involving the connection between the mind and emotions on the autonomic, immune, and endocrine systems.
Do everything you can to honestly assess your emotions and release the stress through breathing techniques, exercise, journaling, or talking about your feelings; in this way, you can lessen your risk to cancers.
Conventional Medical Treatment
Treatment varies based on the type of tumor, whether it is benign or malignant, and its location. If the tumor is benign (meaning it has no potential to spread) and is located in a "safe" area where it will not cause symptoms or affect the function of the organ, sometimes no treatment is needed. Sometimes benign tumors may be removed for cosmetic reasons, however. Benign tumors of the brain may be removed because of their location or harmful effect on the surrounding normal brain tissue.
If a tumor is malignant, treatments include:
* Surgery
* Radiation
* Chemotherapy
* A combination of these methods
If the cancer is in one location, the goal of treatment is usually to remove the tumor with surgery. If the tumor has spread to local lymph nodes only, sometimes these can also be removed. If all of the cancer cannot be removed with surgery, the options for treatment include radiation and chemotherapy, or both. Some patients require a combination of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. However, lymphoma is rarely treated with surgery. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy are most often used for treating lymphoma.
Starve a cancer - feed your health
(Presuming you have already decided against subjecting yourself to chemotherapy, radiation treatments and surgery following a diagnosis of cancer, the following outline of what to eat and what not to eat will be of tremendous value:)
Starve a cancer: Stop eating meat, pasteurized dairy products and packaged, processed foods because they are acid-forming and rob the body of protein-digesting enzymes needed for destroying cancer cells. Stop eating simple carbohydrates like white rice, pasta, white flour, refined white sugar-and artificial sweeteners. These are the foods that lower body pH, deprive the cells of oxygen and feed cancer.
Feed your health: Start eating enzyme-rich raw fruits and vegetables, drink plenty of raw (chlorophyll-containing) juice from deep-green leafy vegetables and complex (nitriloside-containing) carbohydrates such as beans, lentils, squashes, sweet potatoes and avocados. Raw cauliflower and broccoli also have properties that make cancer cells unhappy.
At this time, it is worth repeating. In cases where elevating body pH is critical, the most alkalinizing element known to man is cesium. Daily intake of cesium, with potassium, will quickly increase body pH. It has been demonstrated that cancerous cells cannot survive in a pH of 8.0.

Cancer FREE in 60 days(2004)!!!
Gerald M. - California
I am 74, have had four heart attacks, two by-pass operations, a quad and the last a triple in 2002. Since I have been on ASH products my cholesterol is under 200, I have had no angina heart pain, no shortness of breath, my circulation in my legs (claudification) is greatly improved and I have not been sick for a day with any colds, flu, sniffles etc. I am also a survivor of stage 4 cancer in 2001 through Alternative and Complimentary medicine - and have complete confidence in the [Cesium] pH therapy for all cancers. I believe it is near a 100% successful.
Paul D. - California
A year ago I was diagnosed with bladder cancer- undoubtedly from years of smoking. Cancer is such a terrifying word. I Googled the net for alternative cancer protocols- protocols that give back the body what it needs instead of resorting to drugs and surgery. As one afflicted with cancer, I learned from ASH how to alkalize my body as cancer cells can only survive in an acid condition. The learning goes on- week after week- and I invite anyone who really wants to understand and benefit from all-natural, non-pharmaceutical modalities, to become an ASH member. I, for one, am extremely grateful for discovering this amazing program!

Our modern lives give us ample opportunity to become acidic. Commonly-consumed acid-forming foods and beverages include meat, dairy products, sugar, coffee and alcohol.
